Research on Identity Specific Eating Disorder Symptoms: RISES
About Us
The mission of RISES is to advance our understanding of disordered eating among transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse youth. Our goal is to take this knowledge and improve the screening, prevention, and treatment of disordered eating behaviors and eating disorders among trans and gender-diverse youth.

Current Research Aims
Understand the unique perspectives of TNG youth regarding research participation: Health research historically has excluded TNG youth. We aim to explore the reasons why TNG youth decide to participate or to not participate in research to improve TNG representation and satisfaction within research.
Develop a disordered eating behavior screening tool that adequately reflects the unique experiences of TNG youth: Screening tools for disordered eating have largely been developed in predominantly White cisgender female samples and there are no tailored tools specific for TNG youth.
Prioritize the voices of TNG youth throughout every aspect of our research: We aim to uplift the voices of TNG youth through a youth advisory board of 5-7 TNG youth who provide feedback on all aspects of our research.
